“Wir sind Landkreis Kelheim” (“We are district Kelheim“) – this is our motto. This “we” also includes people who migrated to our district. Currently, 13% of people living in the district of Kelheim are of foreign decent. This percentage is excluding the number of people who have already received their German citizenship. Therefore, the integration of this people is crucial to the growth of the Kelheim region. A much-needed discussion for future endeavours

What does integration mean in the District of Kelheim?

Goal of Integration is to achieve mutual beneficial experiences through equal collective participation. These benefits should be inclusive of all in the district of Kelheim regardless of migratory background. To achieve that, several different actors cooperate with each other including migrants, institutions, volunteers and authorities.

For all questions concerning immigration law, please contact the Foreign Office (Ausländerbehörde). The Foreign Office is responsible for the implementation of the immigration laws and several other special laws concerning entering, staying, and working in Germany including integrating foreigners.

For queries concerning the accommodation of asylum applicants and humanitarian protection in decentralized accommodation, please contact asylum accommodation (Asylunterbringung).

Integration Prize winner

The district of Kelheim, in cooperation with the Kreissparkasse Kelheim, awards the integration prize to people who have made an outstanding contribution to the integration of people with migratory background. In 2020, this award went to “TatBayern e.V.” in Mainburg.

Integration Plan for the District of Kelheim

The district committee commissioned the local authority to create an integration plan on the 24th July 2017 to build a foundation for integrational work in Kelheim district.

The first plan that was drafted serves as the basis and orientation to build structures, which will allow for long-term integration. In other words, all people with a migratory background should have the opportunity to become part of our community.

The goal is to foster cooperation between all relevant stakeholders. Essentially we would have to ensure we create a tolerate society that is open-minded to people with foreign backgrounds to do so. For those who migrate to Germany, there should be a willingness and readiness to acknowledge and adopt the morals and values that have proven useful.

On 17th December 2018, the integration plan of the district of Kelheim, titled “Gemeinsam Gesellschaft Gestalten” (“Shaping Society Together”), was passed by the council. Throughout this process, many people have shared their knowledge and valuable experiences with us to create this plan, which we are very grateful for.
